On May 1st, UCW joins a coalition of community groups, unions in solidarity with Cooperation Jackson’s Call to Action: Towards a General Strike to End the COVID-19 Crisis and Create a New World”. We will caravan to critical sites in the city where this crisis is unfolding to express support and raise demands of Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.  We demand state funding for essential needs and benefits for essential workers and people:

UCWGA members hold signs during Virtual Day of ActionWith the announcement that the University System of Georgia was shifting to online instruction to better protect our communities against COVID-19, UCWGA acted swiftly to make sure that all USG campuses were taking equitable measures in regards to rights, pay, and safety precautions for all employees.

We are excited to announce our new UCWGA Steering Committee!
There were six nominees for the four vacant positions on the UCW GA Steering Committee, but two of them withdrew their names, leaving four. These members have thus been elected by acclamation:

Daren Fowler, Georgia State
Laurie McDowell, Kennesaw State

We had a successful Fair Wage picnic on May 1, 2019, thanks to the UGA employees, artists, and to our gracious sponsors! We look forward to this becoming an annual event.

May 1, 2019  Building on years of prior work by the Economic Justice Coalition, efforts this year by United Campus Workers of Georgia and a coalition of community partners have resulted in real progress, as UGA President Gere Morehead announced a wage increase of about 2.8% for the institution’s lowest paid workers.
